Inspiration

My inspiration for this story stems from me as a person, as well as my experience in Arkansas and the country in general. As a person, I have always struggled with assimilating into a group of people, much less becoming a well-liked addition to said group. I myself had to go on a long and arduous journey of personal and educational growth in order to find my way to fit in. Michael and Aurora are based on the same supportive friends who supported me in getting to where I am now. This particular endeavor of mine has influenced some of Kid’s characteristics, though Kid’s specific experience is very unique to himself. As a kid who grew up in Los Angeles, traveling to the country in Arkansas is an entirely different experi- ence. There is a noticeable contrast in the behavior of children in these two locations, which prompts me to question if the kid in Arkansas may struggle to integrate into the big city, or vice versa.

Running away

 Meeting Michael

After falling from the mountains and running through the thick forest, injuring his leg, Kid stumbles into a clearing to rest. However, he comes face to face with a human named Michael. At first, Michael is startled, however he soon notices the gash on Kid’s leg. As Kid struggles to stand up again, Michael offers his help, which Kid rejects. Unsure of how to help, Michael gives Kid his bag of snacks and reluctantly walks away. Unexpectedly, Kid turns around and silently pleads to go with him. Michael feels bad for Kid, and decides to take him to the doctor’s office.
